Terry Pheto

Terry Pheto left many shocked as she was recently implicated in criminal activities. The multi-award winning actress has been pointed out among other eight individuals accused of fraud relating to funding by the National Lotteries Commission. They are said to have defrauded the commission, R25 million. The Special Investigating Unit obtained a high court preservation order to freeze some assets. Among those are nine luxury properties, cars, and two restaurants valued at about R25-million, belonging to various individuals.

Presley Chweneyagae

Another actor, Presley Chweneyagae, just made headlines after being accused of misusing funds from the National Lotteries Commission. The musical “Taking Back the Future”, co-directed by Chweneyagae, is accused of misusing a R15 million lottery grant. Investigative journalist Raymond Joseph, started the investigation into the Presley Chweneyagae Foundation in 2018. Joseph says the Foundation received the money from the R67.5 million which was secured from the lottery by the Southern African Youth Movement.

Carol Bouwer

Businesswoman and producer Carol Bouwer is the latest personality implicated in fraud. She is named at the centre of an ongoing Hawks investigation into a tender that is alleged to have been improperly awarded. A recent article published by City Press, claims that there is an investigation by the Hawks regarding the awarding of an almost R40 million tender to Bouwer’s production company. The article states that Hawks were alerted to the case on two separate occasions after the fact that her company Carol Bouwer Productions, was awarded a tender to help organize the Nelson Mandela memorial service in Mpumalanga.
