Breaking! Malesela Teffo Struck off the Legal Practitioners Roll
Breaking! Malesela Teffo Struck off the Legal Practitioners Roll. For the past couple of months he has been making news both on the mainstream media and social media. This is all thanks to Malesela Teffo representing the four accused men on the ongoing Senzo Meyiwa trial.
At the beginning of the trial, many had hope that Teffo was going to solve this case, which has been going on for years now. Meyiwa, who was a goalkeeper for both Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana lost his life on 26 October 2014. Although he was gunned down in a room full of people, to date no one has accounted for his murder. A couple of arrests have been made, but sadly the murder hasn’t been pinned down on anyone.
Well, instead of making a name for himself on the Meyiwa trial, it has been quite the opposite for Teffo. He has been struck off the roll of legal practitioners following his behavior in the trial. The Pretoria high court ruled in favour of a Legal Practice Council (LPC) application on Friday, with Teffo in absentia. The LPC presented correspondence, affidavits and court records.
There were 22 complaints of malpractice against him, including misleading the court, threatening clients and failing to act in an ethical and professional manner during court proceedings. During the trial, the controversial advocate cited interference by President Cyril Ramaphosa and accused the presiding Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela of witchcraft. In another instance, he allegedly used an attorney’s signature without authorisation in correspondence in a case.
