South African Celebs React to the Passing Away of Off-White CEO Virgil Abloh

South African Celebs React to the Passing Away of Off-White CEO Virgil Abloh. Although it is such a sad occurrence, death has a way of bringing people from all works of life together. This is exactly the case as South Africa joins the international community to mourn the death of Virgil Abloh. The artistic director of Louis Vuitton and chief executive officer of Off-White c/o died on Sunday aged 41.
Abloh battled Cardiac Angiosarcoma privately for the last two years. This a rare cancer of the heart which restricts both the inflow and outflow of blood to and from the organ. According to a statement from his Instagram account, he chose to endure his battle privately since his diagnosis in 2019. Abloh kept on doing the most in the industry, despite the numerous challenging treatments he underwent.
Among those local celebs who had a close relationship with Abloh is, Black Coffee. The pair were firm friends, having DJ’d together in various events, including Music Is King as well as working on both art and fashion projects together. In 2018, Black Coffee opened the first ever Off-White pop up store in Johannesburg, which was a hit among fashion lovers. On his tribute to Abloh, Coffee thanked the fashion icon for everything he has done for the current and generations to come.
Local designer Thebe Magugu also shared his piece saying Abloh has opened doors to so many people. “Your legacy is one that will never be forgotten, and will continue to shape fashion for years into the future,” he added.
Other personalities like Thembisa Nxumalo, Sizwe Dhlomo, DJ Zinhle and Thick Leeyonce also took to social media to express their grief. Abloh is survived by his wife Shannon Abloh, his children Lowe Abloh and Grey Abloh, his sister Edwina Abloh and both his parents Nee and Eunice Abloh.
Our deepest condolences goes to his family, friends, colleagues, fans as well as the fashion industry.
