Bongani Pens a Heartfelt Tribute to Brenda Fassie on What Would Have Been Her 57th Birthday

Bongani Pens a Heartfelt Tribute to Brenda Fassie on What Would Have Been Her 57th Birthday. No matter how many years pass by and how grown up you get, you can never get over the loss of a parent. Ever since Brenda Fassie passed away in May 2004, it has not been an easy life for Bongani.ย  First and foremost, he was young at the time, and Brenda was his only parent.

Today, if she was alive, Brenda would be clocking 57 years. Sadly when this day comes, we can only celebrate the memories that the iconic musician left us with. Her child, Bongani Fassie took to Twitter to pay tribute to his mother as a way to honor her birthday. The musician and reality TV star spoke highly of his mother, and expressed how much he loves her in a beautiful tribute.

If there is a local icon who deserves to be honored in a big way, it has to be Brenda. Unfortunately her much anticipated film which could have been a great tribute to her, was surrounded by controversy, from the get go. Brenda’s manager Chicco Twala wanted to indelibly interdict Bongani from having the rights to produce a film concerning his motherโ€™s life. Because of this, the Brenda Fassie Film was put on hold.

After a long fight, the issue was resolved and Bongani can finally tell his mother’s story through film. He has not shared details about the release date and who will be playing the iconic role of Brenda. All that he shared, is a glimpse of the premier, a year ago.

Although she was massively talented, Brenda had the same problems that many artists battle with. Throughout her music career, she was a cocaine addict, which affected her progress as an artist since she ended up in numerous controversies. She was in and out of drug rehabilitation centres for more than 30 times. The singer is said to have collapsed and gone into a coma at the age of 39 while at her home, which was located at Buccleuch in Gauteng.
