SA Celebs Weigh In On The Looting Incidents Happening Around The Country. A few days ago, Thuso Mbedu stated that South Africa is burning. Although she was crucified for her views, it looks like she was on to something. There is chaos around the country, with violet riots as well as looting of shops in provinces like KZN and Gauteng.
Because of these riots, roads in and out of the Durban CBD are no-go zones at this moment. Overnight looting and rioting has left shops empty and roads strewn with burnt out vehicles. Other affected areas include the M27 at Waterloo, the Cornubia road offramp at the N2, and North Coast Road. Some parts of Gauteng like Alexandra Township are also experiencing more or less the same thing. Some shops like Dis-Chem have decided to close, until the situation is contained.
These attacks follows the jailing of former South African President Jacob Zuma spread. The unrest had mainly been concentrated in Zuma’s home after he started serving a 15-month sentence for contempt of court on Wednesday night.
Just like everybody else, our celebs have also shared their opinions over the issue, more especially the looting. The likes of Olwethu Leshabane and Bontle Modiselle have looked at the poverty factor, which might be a reason why some people loot. O the other had some like Tumisho Masha are not happy that struggling black owned businesses in the townships are being looted.
