People Aged 35-49 To Be Eligible For Vaccine. The vaccine roll out pace is now picking up. As of Thursday 08 July, 2,763,464 people have received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. 378,403 have been fully vaccinated in SA with both doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The J&J national program has reached a total of 395,626 (education staff,law enforcement) and 479,949 Healthcare workers have been vaccinated in the J&J Sisonke Trial. The cumulative number of vaccine doses administered to South Africans is 4 017 442.
It looks like the number will dramatically increase in the next coming months. Acting health minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane has announced a major boost to South Africa’s Covid-19 vaccination plans, with vaccines now being made available to more age groups and on weekends. As on 15 July, those aged 35-49 years will be eligible to register for a vaccine. This age group can start receiving the jab from 1 August 2021.
The country reported 22,910 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday (8 July), taking the total reported to 2,135,246. Deaths have reached 63,499, while recoveries have climbed to 1,862,900, leaving the country with a balance of 208,847 active cases. The total number of vaccines administered is 4,017,442.
