Somizi Remembers The Talent That Was His Father In A Heartfelt Tribute
Somizi Remembers The Talent That Was His Father In A Heartfelt Tribute. Indeed the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Everyone knows just how close Somizi was to his late parents while they were still alive. One thing that he shared in common with them, is passion and talent for the arts. Just like him Somizi’s parents are well known names in the entertainment industry.
His father Ndaba Mhlongo was an actor and choreographer best known for his role of Mshefane on the 1977 playwright, Inyakanyaka. He also acted on UDeliwe along with his wife Mary Twala and son, Somizi. His other known works include Isivumelelwano, Upondo no Nkinsela, Bad Company and Strike Force. In 1988, Mhlongo received a Tony Award nomination for Best Choreography on Mbongeni Ngema’s Sarafina! He sadly passed away in October 29, 1989 aged 56.
As for Mam’ Twala, her work in the industry speaks for itself. The veteran actress has featured in several South African local productions. Internationally she worked with the likes of Beyonce on the Black Is King documentary. Twala sadly passed on July 4, 2020 after a long illness.
Speaking about his late father, Somizi prides himself in being his son. The media personality spoke about Mhlongo’s talent as well as accolades. He also spoke about how his father was exploited in the industry. All that he had was fame. This is the reason why Somizi never compromises on his work. It is for his parents’ honor that he is all about fame that comes with fortune.
“I sometimes take for granted or forget whose seed I am…..or too humble about it……let me pride myself…..I was birthed by the first to ever do it……NDABA WALTER MHLONGO……MSHEFANE TO MANY……and some wonder why I am what and who I am…its no miracle……I’m the apple he is the tree…..multi talented dad…..multi award winning actor……TONY AWARD nominee for best choreography for SARAFINA on BROADWAY……SINGER….DANCER…ACTOR….INSTRUMENTALISTS……..COMEDIAN…..ETC….
He never got the fortune to match his talents and contributions into the arts…..FAME AND FORTUNE never became his reality…..he was just famous……and exploited….
And that is why I will never compromise on my worth……if u don’t have the budget for me….try next door….and this I do it for my parents……in their honor…….FAME AND FORTUNE shall be my reality…..coz I.. worth it…,“ Somizi said.
