Well, DiepCity had big boots to feel, and so far the series is doing great things. This is one show that has introduced some of the best talents we never knew we had. One of those making a name for himself is Chrispen Nyathi.

1. 24-year-old, Chrispen Nyathi grew up in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
2. His childhood was spent jumping from one place to the other. Since birth, until Grade Four, he moved from eMganwini to Sizinda. From Grade 4, Nyathi had to move to Hillside to stay with his granny who was a domestic worker there. During his first term in high school at Hamilton, he moved to Plumtree.
3. The talented Nyathi then relocated to South Africa in 2019, where he attended Denver Secondary School.
4. As an actor, he gained inspiration from the South African series, Zone 14’s Vusa Thwala through his arts nurturing school projects like Behind The Blazer which he conducted at various schools including Denver.
5. His break came when Mandla N. wanted fresh faces for his productions, something which worked to Nyathi’s advantage. The Black Brain Pictures boss started hosting auditions online for Vula Vala and Diep City, with his target being fresh faces. Nyathi took part in the auditions and got the role.
6. He plays Charleston, a young pastor and husband to one of the main characters. He is also an illegal immigrant based in Diep City.
7. It goes without saying that Nyathi is one of the most loved actors on the show. Another thing that people love about him is his impressive singing talent. Every now and the his character, Charleston belts out a tune, winning the hearts of viewers.
8. He also continues to steal the show with his Shona lines. In one iconic episode, Mduduzi Mabaso who plays Bra Elliot had a conversation with Charleston in Shona. Mabaso was helped by Nyathi to get the language right.
9. Among other major shows she has appeared on include The Queen, Moja Love’s Ufelani as well as Binnelanders, where he got to mingle with award winning actor Cinton Brink both on and off the set.
