Drone Training and Placement Opportunity (DigiYouth Africa) at MANCOSA

MANCOSA PTY LTD, in partnership with DigiYouth Africa, is offering a comprehensive Drone Training and Placement programme in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. This contract-based programme equips candidates with practical drone operations skills and provides placement opportunities in relevant industry roles. Applications close on 6 January 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with pre-flight preparations, including basic equipment checks and mission planning under supervision
  • Operate unmanned aircraft safely, following company procedures, training, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain situational awareness during flights to identify obstacles, hazards, and potential airspace conflicts
  • Support safe take-off and landing operations, ensuring areas are suitable for aircraft operations
  • Monitor aircraft systems and report any abnormalities or safety concerns immediately
  • Assist in post-flight procedures, including data offloading, equipment inspection, battery management, and flight log updates
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and report hazards, incidents, or near-misses to senior personnel
  • Participate in ongoing training to improve piloting skills, operational knowledge, and understanding of procedures
  • Support the UAS team with general operational tasks as assigned
  • Stop or report any unsafe actions or conditions and refuse to operate equipment if safety is compromised

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • At least 18 years old at the time of matriculation
  • Proficiency in English

Required Competencies

  • Basic understanding of smartphones, GPS, and cameras
  • Excellent reading, speaking, and listening skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision

Additional Advantages

  • Map reading and interpretation skills
  • Basic weather understanding
  • Knowledge of geography and mathematics

Supervision and Development

  • Junior pilots operate under direct supervision until competent for independent operations
  • Responsibilities expand gradually as skills and proficiency develop

  • Based in KwaZulu-Natal
  • Work includes office-based and field-based assignments
