Enhle Mbali Apologizes for the Term She Used for Natural Coarse Hair

Enhle Mbali Apologizes for the Term She Used for Natural Coarse Hair. Speaking in any public platform as a public figure requires discernment. What you can say in a light moment, can be interpreted the other way by your audience. Enhle Mbali got to know this the hard way at an event promoting her partnership with Carlton Hair.

The award winning actress and entrepreneur was recently announced as the new face of Carlton Hair SA. With salons all over the country, Carlton Hair has moved on with the times, and now deals with ethnic hair. While on the podium, Enhle stated that she has kaffir hair, which normally refers to African thick course hair.

Listen, it’s the new South Africa and I’m allowed to say this. I’ve got k*fir hare. And the black people know exactly what I mean and the coloured people know exactly what I mean as well,” Enhle said.

A clip of her saying that found its way to social media, and Enhle has been dragged since. Many feel she shouldn’t have said that more so in the presence of white people. Enhle has thus taken to social media to apologize for what she said. She acknowledges how reckless she was in using a word that carries heavy and sad history.

I am posting this video to express my heartfelt apology as a black South African woman , for offending members of the South African community during my speech, as that was far from my intention. The K word as it’s formally known, is still a sticky one with lots of history behind it. I spoke in the language (terminology) that we commonly used where I grew up. We rendered the K word’s humiliation untrue, therefore it was never owned space. My intention was not to dismiss or demean any community while sharing my personal experiences. With that being said, I fully understand this is not the case for everyone. Once again, my sincerest apology #EmpressEnhle,” Enhle said.
