Department of Correctional Services Announce That Their Inmates Are Ready for Matric Exams. Now this is what rehabilitation is all about, not giving up on people, but rather giving them second chances. The Department of Correctional Services has a mandate to transfer skills to inmates through formal and vocational training to equip them for life upon their release.
Over the years, DCS has achieve great Matric results with the following pass rates recorded in the last couple of years, 2016 – 72.1%, 2017 – 76.7%, 2018 – 77.3%, 2019 – 82.6%, 2020 –86.3% and 2021-76.4%. In 2022, their full-time school achieved 95,9% pass rate while part-time registered a 63,3%. The final tally of results was 87,5%, an improvement from the 77% they obtained from the 2021 academic year. This is really commendable considering the pandemic and load shedding challenges.
Once again, the Correctional Service schools re fully prepared for the upcoming National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, set to run from 21st October to 27th November 2024. The department has released a statement, in which they revealed how ready their inmates are for the Matric exams.
“The Department of Correctional Services (DSC) is pleased with the level of preparedness as inmates have completed the academic syllabus on time and have undergone various assessment throughout the year. Educators from the department’s 18 schools remain optimistic having made significant efforts to ensure that all candidates are thoroughly prepared. Additionally, the Department ensured that all required textbooks and stationery were delivered to schools in a timely manner.”
