The award winning businessman and philanthropist started his shoe brand, Bathu, in Alexandra Township, and now he owns close to 35 stores around South Africa. Baloyi has just opened his 34th store, in Mall of Africa. Celebrating the opening, he states that he takes every step as a victory. Baloyi is looking forward to opening more stores, this creating opportunities and inspiring the masses.

Theo was among the African entrepreneurs featured on the Forbes Africa Magazine list of Small Giants in their June/July issue. The business publication also focused on other local heroes Portia Mngomezulu and Brett Thompson among others. The issue captures the essence of the hyper-local in Africa, showcasing the true grit and resilience inherent within the continent’s economies, capturing the progress of small companies big on ideas, culture and community.
Bathu recently launched, its very first female sneaker range, the Bathu 908. This was dropped on August 9, a day marked as National Woman’s Day. Baloyi was also not left behind, this year’s Mandela Day. Through, Bathu Care Foundation, he donated 1000 pairs of shoes to students at his former high school.
