SA Creatives React to the Published List of Covid-19 Financial Relief Beneficiaries
SA Creatives React to the Published List of Covid-19 Financial Beneficiaries. Social media is going abuzz right now, as names of those who benefited from the Covid-19 relief fund make rounds.
As per Minister Gayton McKenzie‘s request, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has just published a list of all artist, creatives and sports people who received funding during the Covid-19 pandemic. The list has some interesting names, among them, Mohale Motaung and MacG, who both received R75k. Arthur Mafokate and his son AJ got 20k each from the relief fund. Actress and entrepreneur Winnie Ntshaba’s name is also on the list.
The list has sparked a debate on social media with many applauding McKenzie, while some see more trouble ahead. It is believed that some of the names on the list are just Ghost names, and some people on the list did nor receive any cent. One such is Winnie, who has notified politician and businessman, Kenny Kunene about being falsely listed.
Winnie just reached out to me saying she doesn't understand why her name is on the Sports COVID-19 list as she neither applied nor receive any funds. If you didn't receive funds n your name is on the list, reach out to office of the Minister @GaytonMcK

Some creatives called out the move by the Minister as not being fair. This is because, the government did invite entertainers to apply for the funds, which they did. Seeing their names on the list, feels like victimization. Others feel that there are people who chowed serious money, but their names won’t make it on any list whatsoever.
