Thandiswa Mazwai Shares One Funny Conversation She Had with Brenda Fassie. It has been 20 years since the passing away of one of South Africa’s iconic musician, Brenda Fassie. Despite it being two decades, Brenda’s legacy lives on, and she is still in the memory of many.

Affectionately called MaBrrr by her fans, Brenda was in a league of her own. She earned names such as the “Queen of African Pop”, the “Madonna of The Townships” or simply as The Black Madonna. Her bold stage antics earned a reputation for “outrageousness”. Outside the stage, Brenda was also a character. Her lifestyle, love life, fashion sense, and opinions, could be turned into books or films. This is why, no matter how many entertainers pop up, Brenda remains the blueprint.

As the nation remembers her two decades after her passing, another musician Thandiswa Mazwai also has an experience to share. Although she is a star herself, she also her fan girl moment, when she meets certain entertainers and renowned leaders. Thandiswa still cherishes the day she got to hand with Michael Jackson and Nelson Mandela.

She also took us back to the time she bumped into Brenda in the Downtown Studios bathrooms. How cool was it that Brenda complimented her on her amazing vocals. Thandiswa also added that Brenda also called her out on her uncombed hair.

Remembering this one time I bumped into Brenda in the bathrooms at Downtown studios where all the superstars used to rehearse, and she said to me in a hoarse voice, “ucula kamnandi kodwa awukamanga” Thandiswa shared the funny memory.
