A few days back, a clip of Zinhle’s interview from Radio 702, made rounds on social media. The celebrated musician and entrepreneur spoke about the unemployment crisis in the country. Zinhle acknowledged that there is a skills shortage, and shared her struggles of finding just three people for her accessories store, Era by DJ Zinhle
“One thing about South African youth is unemployable, they don’t have SKILLS to do what’s required,” Zinhle said.
Immediately after the clip of the interview was shared on Twitter, Zinhle trended. Many tweeps were not happy with her views, and they still not are. They feel because Zinhle comes from a seemingly privileged position, she feels entitled to attack those struggling. Although Zinhle tried by all means to explain the points she made, and apologized to those who feel offended, she was still attacked.
She has now shared a more detailed apology in the form of a video the the country at large. Zinhle noted that she was probably wrong for using the word, ‘unemployable.’ She shared that by using the word, she was not implying that young people are to bale in anyway. However, she apologized for using the word.
