Musician Marc Rantseli of the Duo MarcAlex Is Late

Musician Marc Rantseli of the Duo MarcAlex Is Late. On yet another sad note, South Africa is mourning one of it’s veteran musicians. Marc Rantseli, an iconic musician and advocate for musicians’ rights, has sadly passed away.

Marc passed away at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, Thursday morning following a short illness. According to some reports, Marc was admitted to the hospital two weeks ago due to high blood pressure. This lead to pressure on his brain resulting in his death. He was 58 years of age, at the time of his passing. Marc is survived by two children.

The veteran musician was born in Diepkloof, Soweto and started playing piano and singing in high school. He also used to be a recording engineer for Phil Hollis-Khumalo’s Dephon. Marc and his brother Alex formed the popular band duo Marc Alex in the late 1980s, leading the South African music scene with their hits. One of their hit songs “Quick Quick”, reached number 1 on the local music charts. Since then, the duo released more hit songs such as ‘My Life’, ‘My Love’, ‘My Everything’, as well as ‘Breaking Love’. Rantseli was also known for his work at the Southern African Music Rights Organization, where he protected and promoted the interests of local artists.

We send our deepest condolences to the Rantseli family, his fans and the music fraternity at large.
