SA Celebs Share Their Views On the EFF Festivities That Took Place Over the Weekend. What a hectic weekend South Africans had! One event that will be talked about for years to come is the Economic Freedom Fighter‘s 10 years anniversary that took place this Saturday at the FNB Stadium.
EFF started from the bottom a decade ago, and now they are one of the most followed political parties. Over the weekend, the party’s fonder and leader Julius Malema effectively kicked off the party’s 2024 elections campaign at its 10th-anniversary bash. Taking to the stage, he vowed that the Red Berets would unseat the African National Congress, come the next elections. The party’s support stands at 10.8% based on the previous national elections.
On Wednesday, Malema visited a settlement near the Marikana mine, where poor people live, as part of events to mark the EFF’s 10th anniversary. The party slaughtered 15 cows and brewed traditional sorghum beer to “appease the ancestors“.
This was followed by a fundraising dinner attended by among others, families of the shot Marikana miners, UDM leader Bantu Holomisa and controversial businessman Adriano Mazzotti. The gala dinner sold tables as an opportunity for business people and the public to interact with the leadership of the EFF.
On Saturday, Johannesburg was painted red with thousands of people in EFF regalia for the main event. The party’s supporters came from all corners of the country to commemorate ten years of it’s existence. Social media also went abuzz, with many users posting about the event. The likes of Sizwe Dhlomo, Bonang Matheba, Mmusi Maimane, Professor Mamokgethi Phokeng and Anele Mdoda, also had an opinion about the event.
