The Lazy Makoti Reveals How It Felt Performing Under the Zebra Mask. She recently showed the country just how multi-talented she is. The Lazy Makoti is one of the local celebrities on The Masked Singer, celebrity singing competition.
On the show, well known personalities perform under the cover of flamboyant costumes and facial masks to conceal their identities. This has proved to be a winning formula which has attracted voluminous audiences worldwide.
This past Saturday, The Masked Singer SA premiered on TV, and a couple of days later, it is still the talk of town. The host Mpho Popps, made it extra fun, with his side jokes, keeping everyone entertained. The detectives, Skhumba, Somizi, J’Something and Sithelo Shozi also brought their A-game. As for the contestants, the outdid themselves on the stage.
Sadly we had to witness the departure of Zebra, who fell short of enough votes to remain in the competition. The personality behind the Zebra was none other than, The Lazy Makoti. The celebrity chef and author sang Lira’s hit song, ‘Ngiyazifela’
Speaking about her short-lived experience on the show, she said it is one of the most Out-Of-The-Box things she has ever had the bravery of doing.
“Being 🦓 was as scary as it was exciting! That mask was heavy doe! Singing and dancing in that thing was..challenging,” The Lazy Makoti said.
She also went on to thank Anele Mdoda and Frankie for producing the show. The Lazy Makoti also expressed gratitude to the music director, Khaya Mthetwa, who helped her find her voice.
“To the ladies at Hollywood costumes, from fittings to the final performance, thank you for creating a such a fantastical costume. And obliging me and giving the zebra my signature ruby woo red lips!
To Mpho and the detectives thank you for a grand time!
Thank you to the entire team, who would usher me from my house in hiding to practice then to set, the FBI I tell you. Not even witness protection is that hectic!
