Blockman Opportunity at Pick n Pay in George

Pick n Pay is looking for a dedicated Blockman to join their team in George, Western Cape. This full-time role offers hands-on experience in butchery operations while working in a dynamic retail environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and producing meat products to specification, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring the safe operation of all butchery equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate all butchery equipment, including the bandsaw, safely and efficiently.
- Prepare and break down various meat carcasses according to specifications.
- Debone meat cuts and produce mince, sausages, and other products.
- Control, merchandise, and promote stock following company standards.
- Prevent wastage, shrinkage, and damage to stock.
- Monitor temperatures and maintain the cold chain.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of butchery equipment and utensils.
- Assist in receiving meat from suppliers and train staff on new products.
- Provide courteous and professional service to customers.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 certificate.
- Experience manufacturing meat products such as sausages, mince, and roasts.
- Strong communication skills and reliability.
- Physical ability to lift carcasses and work in cold environments.
- Competency will be assessed as part of the selection process.
