Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng Sings Her 78 Year Old Mother’s Praises
Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng Sings Her 78 Year Old Mother’s Praises. No matter how old we are, when it comes to our mother, we become like little children. Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng has just shown us all that even at the age of 5, her mother is still appreciated for everything she has done and keeps on doing for the family.
It goes without saying that the vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Town, is big on birthdays. A couple of days ago, her mother celebrated her 78th birthday and Professor Phakeng seized the moment to sing her praises. Speaking on the big day, she spoke about the sacrifices her mother made, just so her children could have a better life and future. Professor Phakeng also shared the lessons she has thus far learnt from her mother, which includes being selfless.
“Paying tribute to my ghettofabulous mother on her 78th birthday on Saturday. So many lessons from her life. She has been through a lot and she is still standing strong. May God continue to protect and bless her,” Professor Phakeng said.

Being a mom herself, she understands the importance of this role. This year on Mothers Day, Professor Phakeng penned a beautiful appreciation tweet to her mother. She celebrated her mom for teaching her how to be human. She mentioned how poor they were, and how her mother still went on to take in a fourth child who’s not a relative to raise. By then the family lived in a 4-roomed house but mommy dearest still took in distant relatives who needed help. Even to date, she continues to live with young people who aren’t relatives. What a woman!
