Watch! Shaka Ilembe Trailer Sparks Interest Amongst Historians. As Martin Luther King II once said, ‘We are not makers of history. We are made by history.‘ One way to know about what took place in the past is by visiting history books, watching movies about history as well as learning about past events at school.
When it comes to South African history, we can’t help but be in awe of the outstanding qualities that our forefathers had. They were resilient, fought for our freedom, and always stood their ground to defend the country. One significant person form our past is the great King Shaka kaSenzangakhona.
A number of books and movies have been done to honor the life of the late King Shaka. Currently trending on social media is Shaka Ilembe, a movie that will shed more light on the life of this celebrated black leader. Set in the 1700s, Shaka Ilembe tells the story from his early childhood through to adulthood.
Celebrated media personality and actress Nomzamo Mbatha plays Queen Nandi, the revered mother of King Shaka. She will also executive produce the series, which was filmedin Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. Lemogang Tsipa and newcomer Ntando Zondi, will both play Shaka at different ages of his life. Thembinkosi Mthembu stars as King Dingiswayo, while Wiseman Mncube bagged the role of King Zwide. Senzo Radebe has been cast as King Senzangakhona.
