President Cyril Ramaphosa Responds to the Load Shedding Crisis
President Cyril Ramaphosa Responds to the Load Shedding Crisis. What is currently happening in South Africa with regards to electricity is heart-wrenching. The load shedding crisis began in the later months of 2007 and continues to this day, with residents going for very long hours of darkness.
A few days ago, Eskom implemented stage 6 load shedding, which is currently ongoing. This was due to a significant deterioration of its operations overnight. This simply means outages will be scheduled over four-day periods for four hours at a time, something which has only been implemented once before, on the 9th of December 2019.
This couldn’t have happened at the worst time as we are right in the middle of winter. As expected angry residents have taken to social media where they are calling out the government as well as Eskom. They believe leaders are not taking South Africans seriously and this should come to an end.
In response to the crisis, the government has assured residents that President Cyril Ramaphosa is leading the response to the current energy crisis.
“Government would like to reassure South Africans that President Cyril Ramaphosa is leading the response to the current energy crisis. The outcomes of discussions that are underway will be communicated to the public.“
