NSFAS Reveals the Number of Students Funded for the 2022 Academic Year
NSFAS Reveals the Number of Students Funded for the 2022 Academic Year. For years, The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has been providing financial aid to undergraduate students to help pay for the cost of their tertiary education after finishing high school. It is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
Just like in the previous academic years, this year, thousands of students will benefit from the scheme. At the beginning of the year, the Minister of the Department of Higher Education and Training, Science and Innovation, Blade Nzimande announced that NSFAS would receive an additional budget to ensure that all eligible students who have been registered to further their education at a TVET College or University for approved courses are supported.
The Minister has just revealed the number of students who will be sponsored by NSFAS this academic year. The funding scheme has confirmed funding for 691,432 students for the 2022 academic year, with 462,983 being female and 227,072 being male students.
He also emphasized that NSFAS is not a social grant, but an education grant meant for educational purposes and nothing else, and it must be used only for such purposes.
“I am pleased to indicate that the National Student Financial Aid Scheme has confirmed funding for 691,432 students from working class and poor families for the 2022 academic year,” Nzimande announced.
