Masks Off! Social Media Reacts to SA Ending the Mandatory Use of Masks Indoors
Masks Off! Social Media Reacts to SA Ending the Mandatory Use of Masks Indoors. Could we be winning the fight against Covid-19? In March, President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on COVID-19 response, and he also came bearing some good news with regards to restrictions
In his speech, the president stated that masks were no longer a necessity when outdoors. This includes, walking in the streets or in an open space, exercising outdoors, jogging or attending any outdoor gathering. These changes came about as the pandemic changed and the infections rates were low. Three months later, there are other changes with regards to the use of masks.
On Wednesday, Health Minister Joe Phaahla announced the end of mandatory use of masks indoors as well as removed restrictions on gatherings. This comes as the country experiences low Covid-19 infections and related deaths. Other changes include curbs on gathering sizes and border checks for Covid-19.
Phaahlaβs decision follows a meeting of the National Coronavirus Command Council, which weighed in on whether the remaining COVID-19 regulations were still relevant.
