Applications Open for the Media24 Multimedia Journalist: News Post. Daily Sun is looking for a talented Multimedia Journalist to join our team, based in Johannesburg or working remotely from any of the nine provinces in South Africa. The successful candidate will report directly to the News Editor. 

Key Responsibilities:

(The primary tasks, functions, and deliverables of the role)

• Create multimedia content for Daily Sun’s online platform
• Research and develop own news and feature ideas
• Take direction from News Editor
• Supplement written content with mobile video, pictures, and audio interviews as a matter of course
• Deliver target market focused content daily to set deadlines
• Attend daily news meetings
• Regularly produce piece to camera content
• Regularly be in studio for on-camera explainers
• Conceptualize and produce one multi-media feature content every month
• Adhere to quality, style, and content standards
• Understand requirements around paywalled content and deliver accordingly
• Comply with the requirements of the South African Press Code

• Excellent writing skills
• Sound news judgment and attention to detail
• Ability to maintain a strong network of contacts
• Knowledge of mobile video and audio recording
• The ability to take high quality pictures
• A flair for narrative and tabloid style storytelling
• Creativity and a sense of humor
• An understanding of South African media law, ethics, and the Press Code
• The ability to work independently to a high degree of accuracy

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant diploma or degree in journalism or similar
• Driver’s license
• At least 2 years’ experience as a journalist and some experience with shooting video or recording audio
• Knowledge of the online environment
• Strong contact list
• Knowledge of the Daily Sun audience and their interests
• Proficiency in relevant computer packages and applications
