Watch! Leleti Khumalo and Sindi Dlathu Re-enact Sarafina Dance Routine. A day ago, the continent as a whole helped South Africa celebrate the annual Youth Day. The day which is commemorated every year on the 16th of June, always takes us back to the Soweto uprising that occurred in 1976. Young people back then protested in the streets of Soweto in response to the introduction of Afrikaans as the medium of instruction in local schools.
With all the sacrifices they have made, the country still has a long way to go in terms of fighting racism and as well as coming through for the youth among other things. Having noted that, South Africans are still a happy nation, and citizens always find ways to have fun despite the problems they constantly go through. The Imbewu Challenge was the highlight of Youth Day celebrations this year.
Instead of the usual trend of wearing school uniforms, South Africans took up the Sarafina Dance Challenge. Leleti Khumalo, who played the role of Sarafina in Sarafina, led the cast of the e.tv soapie Imbewu, on the iconic dance routine. They stole the hearts of many, hence the Imbewu Challenge came to life.
Another original cast member of Sarafina, Sindi Dlathu accepted the challenge. Together with the cast of The River, the award winning actress showed that she still got it. It is quite heartwarming to see both women still killing it on TV, over 20 years later.
