Shona Ferguson On Being Underrated By Other Actors and Still Giving Them Work. They don’t call it a dog eat dog industry for nothing. The entertainment industry is marred with betrayal, deceits, backstabbing and any hurtful thing you can think of. There is always war between the gate keepers, producers and artists. Prominent production houses like The Fergusons always find themselves in scandals with some of their actors and crew members.
A lot of actors have complained of unfair dismissals as well as unfavorable working conditions while working under Connie and Shona Ferguson. Despite all of this the couple continues to strive and produce hit show after show. The talented duo, recently launched the Ferguson Foundation. This project aim at empowering those individuals in business, education, film, and ultimately building industry leaders.
One would wonder why they still remain strong, despite all the controversies surrounding them. Shona, who hardly does interviews has taken to Twitter to reflect on his journey in the industry. The award winning actor and executive producer speaks about how he was once told by a Hollywood producer that he doesn’t have what it takes after doing multiple takes of an audition.
Among some of Shona’s sad experiences was when an agent told him he doesn’t have the right look to get jobs. Also, a veteran actor, told him he is not memorable, and the statement was echoed by a lot of producers. As for fellow actors, Shona remembers them criticizing his acting. He vividly remembers one incident over 10 years ago when he eavesdropped a conversation where some actors gossiped about him being overrated. Although at that point it hurt him, he decided to not hold a grudge.
The wheel of life keep turning though. Shona has in turn given some of those people jobs. Some will however, rather starve than come work for him.
Just like any other person trying to make through, there was a time Shona couldn’t even afford toiletry. He brushed his teeth with a sunlight bar soap. He couldn’t afford meat, so it was always cabbage and pap for him. Shona credits his success to the constant prayers he lives by. He also added that he learns more from his failures that successes.
“For the devil to defeat you, he has to control your MIND. If I can motivate 1 person with this post, just 1, my job is done. It’s not about likes or comments. I just want to reach that 1 person who needs a little encouragement & say this to you.. You will be OK GOD LOVES YOU,” Shona concluded his powerful thread.
