Tributes Pour In For Minister Jackson Mthembu Who Passed Away From Covid-19 Related Complications. On yet another sad note, Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu has passed away. Mthembu died on Thursday from COVID-19 related complications.
The sad news was confirmed by President Cyril Ramaphosa in a brief statement released a short while ago. Ramaphosa describes the late Minister Mthembu as an exemplary leader, an activist and life-long champion of freedom and democracy.
“He was a much-loved and greatly respected colleague and comrade, whose passing leaves our nation at a loss. I extend my deepest sympathies to the Minister’s family, to his colleagues, comrades and many friends.” he added.
Minster Mthembu was also a parliamentarian for the African National Congress. Previously, he served as the Whip of Parliament for the ruling ANC and as well as the national spokesperson for the ANC. He was also one of the Minsters at the forefront as the government tried by all means to deal with Covid-19.
Condolence messages have bee pouring in, with many shocked by his untimely passing. The likes of EFF leader, Julius Malema, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula, former Mayor of Johannesburg Herman Mashaba, joined thousands of mourners with touching tributes.
