South Africa Enters 2nd Wave of Covid-19 Infections
South Africa Enters 2nd Wave of Covid-19 Infections. The fear that many have had over the past couple of months have sadly become a reality. South Africa has entered a second wave of #COVID19 infections. The announcement was made by Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize on Wednesday.
The Minister outlined the four provinces are the key drivers of this new wave. He also made a breakdown of how they came to this conclusion.
“We are now entering a second wave. It is important for us to highlight that four provinces; Western Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, are the key drivers of this new wave. We look at the number of tests done, the positivity rate, the number of positive cases, the percentage positive, the numbers of people who are admitted, and the number of fatalities. All of these together must show an indication of an increase on a week-to-week period over a seven-day period. We then conclude that there is an increase,” he said.
Mkhize also added that South Africa has also breached the 6,000 mark in daily infections, with 6,709 cases reported in the country over the last 24 hours.. He further advised the nation to practice COVID19 non-pharmaceutical interventions like wearing masks and social distancing, while enjoying the festive season.
