Gigi Lamayne Calls For Shaka Zulu Film To Be Put On Netflix. Back in 1986 Shaka Zulu, a 1986 South African television series directed by William C. Faure aired on South African Broadcasting Corporation. The series based on Sinclair’s novel of the same name was about a legendary African warrior and his struggle to unite his people against the largest empire in the world.
Shaka was played by the late veteran actor Henry Cele, who won many hearts with his impressive acting skills. In 2019, Writer, Director, Executive Producer,Teboho Mahlatsi got in the process of bringing the story of the Zulu warrior Shaka Zulu to life. One of his aims was for Africans to reclaim that story, and tell it from their point of view, as opposed to a colonial gaze.
On Heritage Day, award winning rapper, Gigi Lamayne shared her view on the iconic film. She called for it to be put on Netflix, and since the main character Cele has passed, Gigi proposes for the royalties to be given to his family.
“Put Shaka Zulu on Netflix and give the royalties to Henry Cele’s’ family. Retweet fellow Africans,” she said.
