As a Service Area Assistant in the Fruit & Veg department, you will play an important role in ensuring customers receive fresh, quality products that are correctly prepared, displayed and maintained. The successful candidate will assist with merchandising, product preparation, stock rotation and maintaining hygiene and safety standards across the service floor and backup areas. This position requires attention to detail, reliability and a commitment to providing customers with a positive shopping experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and wrap products according to company specifications and quality standards.
• Stack and store products safely while maintaining an organised work area.
• Merchandise products according to approved company standards.
• Ensure fruit and vegetable displays are attractive, neat and fully stocked.
• Correctly price random weight and loose-selling items.
• Check product labels and ensure accurate pricing information is displayed.
• Inspect product quality and remove expired or damaged stock.
• Rotate stock regularly to reduce wastage and maintain freshness.
• Prevent stock losses caused by wastage, shrinkage or damages.
• Monitor temperatures and maintain the cold chain where required.
• Follow all security procedures and company safety standards.
• Operate and clean equipment according to required procedures.
• Maintain excellent hygiene and housekeeping standards in service and backup areas.
• Assist customers by providing product information and helpful service.
• Listen to customer requests and provide suitable solutions in a professional manner.
• Process customer orders according to company procedures and service standards.
• Promote products and encourage customer purchases.

Requirements and Skills

• Grade 12 qualification. Applicants must attach a copy of their Matric certificate.
• Computer literacy will be advantageous.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to follow processes and instructions accurately.
• Good communication skills.
• Basic numeracy skills.
