Refilwe Modiselle Weighs In On Khanyi Mbau Using People With Albinism For Her Show’s Promo. For years, Refilwe Modiselle, has been using her status as a public figure to educate the masses about albinism. Unfortunately, it takes time for some to grasp the facts, but the education still continues.
It is quite a commendable thing to see people with albinism get opportunities, and become celebrated as well. Refilwe, is one such, who has broken many barriers, and became an inspiration to many. But there is a thin line between giving people with albinism opportunities, and simply using them for your own gain.
Recently media personality, Khanyi Mbau, shared an interesting sneak peek of her upcoming reality show. On the promo video, she has 10 models with albinism, seated with her on a table. This did not sit well with Refilwe, who said the context of the whole promo perpetuates group stereotype and fuels stigma.
“This promo no hle, whats the thinking behind having a group of guys with albinism sitting at a table. Even if it was meant to be regal It’s an unspoken insult in this context that perpetuates group stereotype. This is moving backward not forward fueling stigma,” she said.
