“People Should Do Their Research Because I Was On TV Long Before Bonang!”- Says Lerato Kganyago

Lerato Kganyago’s journey to the top hasn’t been a walk in the park. Lerato is one of Mzansi’s ‘IT’ girls, she’s a TV and radio personality who just added deejaying to her raport. However, Lerato K has also had her fair share of criticism, and hate over the years. But, it has not deterred Lerato from her goals. During a recent interview with Khanyi Mbau , Kganyago opened up again, about being compared to Bonang, and the hate she’s received along the years.

Lerato K was called “Bonang-Lite” because she’s “trying to hard to be like Bonang Matheba”. This came up again during the broadcast of the South African Music Awards on Sunday, 19 April, where Lerato was hosting a section of the show. People took to social media to throw insults at her, even Penny Lebyane joined in.

“That’s an insult. It’s frustrating because I find myself trying to change my voice. I tried to change so that I wouldn’t be compared to anyone, but I realised I’m being unfair to myself, ” Lerato Kganyago once said in an interview with Drum magazine.

Just recently, the TV and radio personality has opened up on Katch It With Khanyi about being compared to Bonang Matheba. She said it used to hurt her a lot and it was painful. “I don’t think God would have blessed me with everything I have now if I was doing things the wrong way”, LKG told Khanyi.

“People should do their research because I was on tv long before Bonang,” she added.
