1. Focus for 10 minutes- Take a subject and schedule 10 minutes of study time for it. Remove all distractions and focus on the work for the entire 10 minutes.

2. Break up your work- Concentrate on doing small sections of work to the best of your abilities. The first tip amplifies the usefulness of studying smaller sections by increasing your focus.

3. Setup and share your Study Schedule- Let as many people know about your study times and tasks. This creates a self imposed pressure to get things done and ultimately removes the procrastination that befalls so many matric students.

4. Rise Early- Getting all your scheduled study time in early can give you a greater sense of achievement and freedom to enjoy the other things in your life.

5. Reinvent your notes in other formats- Rewriting your notes is great if you’re a kinesthetic learner. Mind mapping is the most effective way of doing this. Also, when you re-write something, you will probably think about what you are writing, what it’s about, and why you wrote it down. Most importantly, it refreshes your memory.

6. Make studying a part of your habits-  Too often, it’s easy to view studying as something that only gets done at the last minute in a huge overnight cram session. Instead, try setting aside some time every day to study.

7. Get Creative with online study tools- Don’t feel obliged to just sit in front of a book with a highlighter; there are many different ways to study. You should pick whatever works for you. Try using as many study tools and techniques as possible to help you study better and find what works best for you. –

8. Study in a clean, quiet and orderly room- Keep anything and everything away from where you are that may cause you to get distracted. Jumping up to read a text message on your phone or periodically checking social media is ill-advised whilst studying.

9. Set Reasonable Goals- One of the main reasons people do not reach their goals is because they set them too high. If you set goals that are manageable, even if they seem too simple, you get in the habit of accomplishing them and gradually you can set higher goals.

10. Create a Study Routine- Generally, if you schedule certain times of the day to study, you will get into a routine and accomplish more. If you just “fit it in” during your day, chances are that there will never be any time.
