10 Tips On How To Know Yourself Better
We all have life experiences that we think define us but knowing yourself is a way more than that. It’s not as easy as it might seem to know who you truly are, what you are passionate about and what you want out of life.
Use these tips below to help get familiar with yourself.
1. Knowing yourself goes beyond knowing your favorite color
Knowing who you are is more than knowing what your favorite color or your favorite music album. It’s deeper than that. It’s about understanding the human being that you’re.
2. Explore your nouns
Write down the nouns that represent you, in a pyramid form start the base with the most concrete nouns like woman, man sister or son with the top list with nouns like artist or analyzer. Remind yourself that no matter what you go through, whether it’s stress, failure or tragedy, you’re the person at the top of your pyramid.
3. You’re not born knowing yourself
You do not get to know yourself by growing up and growing old. Knowing yourself is a conscious effort that you do with intention and purpose. When you are older and you don’t quite know who you are, you’ll feel like there’s something missing and it’s your choice to live in misery or choose to find who you are.
4. Pick out your peak experiences
Think about personal experiences that blew your mind, or made you feel on top of the world, then think about how they made you feel, for example excited, joyful. You peak experiences are a reflection of who you really are; it was that great because you brought yourself to it. It is the direct mirror of your own essence.
5. Let go of expectations
We all have visual images of what we want our lives to be in the next year, or when this and that happens but to know who you really are you have to shed all the expectations away and be what you are supposed to be now. You won’t be able to achieve that if you don’t live your ‘reality’.
6. Get to know your dreams
Your dreams and hopes create the pathway to your future; they help you build a life you can be proud of. Start getting to know everything about your dreams. Take them seriously and make them part of your daily pursuit. Never be ashamed of them, they form a big part of who you are.
7. Get to know your body
Know your body, its power, monitor your breathing, abilities, your limits of balance and flexibility. You are going to be surprised, amazed and delighted by your body when you push yourself more.
8. Get to know your core values
Have your own top values that you can never compromise on, those are your core values. They play a big role in decision making, communicating and influencing your everyday life. Ask yourself what you value most, is it integrity, honesty or security or is it responsibility over ambition?
9. Know your likes and dislikes
A lot of people go through life liking what’s popular and disliking what “not cool”. Define for yourself what is cool to you and what’s not. This will give you a lot of confidence in who you truly are.
10. Practice meditation
Meditation stops you from thinking a lot of stuff. This allows you to have time to connect with your inner self, your heart where your spirit resides. It’s where everything that is translated o the outside comes from.
