Pick n Pay is seeking an experienced Blockman to join its team in Camps Bay, Western Cape. This full-time role offers the chance to work in a dynamic environment where team members are passionate about quality meat products and customer service.

Role Overview

The Blockman will prepare, break, and de-bone various meat carcasses while producing mince, sausage, and boerewors. The role requires technical skill, physical ability, and a focus on hygiene and product quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate butchery equipment, including bandsaws, safely and efficiently.
  • Report defective equipment or utensils to the Butchery Manager.
  • Prepare and break meat carcasses according to specifications.
  • De-bone cuts and manufacture mince, sausage, and boerewors.
  • Control, merchandise, and promote stock according to standards.
  • Prevent wastage, shrinkage, and damage to products.
  • Monitor cold chain and check temperatures to maintain product safety.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of all butchery equipment and utensils.
  • Assist with receiving meat from suppliers and training staff on new products.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Prior experience as a Blockman is required.
  • Grade 10 minimum education.
  • Ability to work in a cold environment.
  • Physically able to lift carcasses and containers of meat.
  • Strong communication skills and teamwork orientation.
