Abuse Still On A High In SA

The abuse of our children and women is up scaling tremendously in this country. It is highly imperative for each individual to be an activist in combating the abuse and giving our most support to those that are victimized. People who tend to abuse children are the ones that are closest to us and in our inner circle of life. In most cases it is wise full of us to look no further in discovering the abusers. A child who is a victim of abuse can be identified by certain signs or symptoms. These symptoms are determined by the abuse the victim has been through.

When one goes through a physical abuse he/she usually has unexplainable injuries. While sexual abused children experience pain and genital disorders. Emotional abuse may cause one to wet his/her on bed and also minor aches which have no physical cause.

The National Child Protection Was launched in last year at the Durban International Convention Centre. The theme was “Working Together to Protect Children”. Many campaigns have been launched but despite this, many of South Africa’s children and women are still in danger. Research shows that more than 100 cases of child abuse are reported every week. And nearly 50 000 cases of crime against children were reported between 2011 and 2012.

The way abuse is such a huge matter in this country it is even evident in prominent people’s lives. Paralympics Gold Medalist Oscar Pistorious is currently undergoing trials on his case of killing his girlfriend River Steenkamp saying he had mistaken her for an intruder. Pistorius has had a domestic violence past, In 2009 , he was arrested and spent a night in jail after allegedly physically assaulting a 19-year-old girl at his house. The girl had been asked to leave a party Oscar was hosting, and when she refused, he slammed the front door on her, incidentally catching the girl’s leg with it. Recently a couple has been in the news, arrested for abusing their children. House robbery statistics are up-scaling, not only do robbers only take things but they rape the women and children as well. This is disheartening and requires us to stand and fight as a nation.
