Jewellery Safety – for children and sensitive skins
Having a sensitive skin could prevent a person from even owning a mere a set of earrings, one fine neck piece or a mere watch.
The good news is there are approved jewellery for children and skin sensitive people, with several heavy metals limited of course it’ll be suitable for anyone to own a nice “bling”. Heavy Metals often cause some peoples’ skins to react bad to certain jewellery so the best way to go about it is before buying jewellery ask the shop assistant to recommend the best and suitable piece for your skin. However you can also have basic knowledge on the things used and what you should know about any jewellery, so you can make informed decisions.
There are at least four commonly used metals in jewellery which are Gold, Silver, Platinum and Titanium although we can also identify others such as Nickel, Palladium and Bronze but the above mentioned are the popularly known.
- You need to know metal weight which is measured in Carat and Metal hardness measured in Vickers scale.
- Know the Colours and how they are used in jewellery, the combinations usually in Gold jewellery the colours used are Yellow Gold, White Gold and Rose Gold. The yellow Gold has also tones used to add to it the final product known as two-tone, three tone or Multi-tone.
Also popularly used in Gold jewellery is Copper, Zinc, Silver and Palladium (a rare and lustrous silvery-white metal)
However a highly recommended metal type of Jewellery is Titanium reason being it is very much safer and often used as pure as it is, labeled as 100% hypo-allergenic causes skin reactions not and also because it is affordable. Titanium is the hardest natural metal in the world and it is stronger compared to Gold, silver and platinum, it is scratch resistant and light weight. In jewellery Titanium is often used in earrings and bracelets however due to the inability to solder the Titanium jewelleries are limited as compared to Gold, silver and platinum. It is not commonly used in pendants and necklaces due to the above mentioned reason as it results in limiting shapes and designs. Titanium bracelets are highly recommended especially for men as they are colour appealing, they are also light weight and more affordable.
Titanium rings are very limited rings as they cannot be resized but they can be cut off in case of emergency although Aircraft titanium rings cannot.
Also popular is Platinum although not much safer to skin as Titanium it is also recommended because of its high quality standard, it also comes in its almost pure form. Platinum is very dense and a heavy metal, it feels heavier compared to gold but it is more expensive, rare and prestige.
Palladium is the most affordable compared to Gold and Platinum even though Nickel is the cheapest of them all it is not used as much as before due to many reported allergies to the metal, so whenever you buy a jewellery it is highly recommended that you avoid Nickel and any jewellery metal be it Gold or silver that consist of Nickel.
