YV Debate! – The Death Penalty Debate
The country’s growing tide of frustration and horror at the lawlessness in SA has made people rethink the death penalty. Numerous cases have came to light of minors as young at 9 months being brutally raped or killed. In some instances murders are convicted, sent to prison for a few years and released to the dismay of victims and their communities. Some have even gone as further as committing murder again or commit other crimes after the long rehabilitation.
On the other hand there is uneasiness around introducing death penalties among some people who feel that in some instances people have been wrongly convicted of crimes they did not commit- Imagine if a death penalty is handed down to someone who is innocent? or framed?
Apartheid South Africa saw a surge in political executions of anti-apartheid activists convicted of violent crimes, mainly of blacks during apartheid. This causes uneasiness for some people who lost their loved ones or people they strongly feel where victimised because of the race and political affiliation.
Do you guys think the death penalty is good? Should it
be reintroduced in South Africa? YES OR NO and Why ?

Andile Khathi I feel that there is no point in keeping someone in prison for longer than 50years. That’s past the point of rehabilitation. My take is that for crimes that warrant sentences of more than 2 life sentences (50yrs), the death penalty could be introduced -

What SA stands for and has built its Constitution on will actually make you understand why.. But its a controversial argument that doesn’t have a right nor wrong.. -
