The Number of Fatalities From the Johannesburg CBD Fire Keep Rising

The Number of Fatalities From the Johannesburg CBD Fire Keep Rising. This is one of the saddest days in South Africa. At least 73 people have lost their lives from a fire at the 5-storey Marshalltown building in Johannesburg CBD. It has been reported that the building that caught fire this is a hijacked building full of illegal immigrants earlier this morning.

It is not yet clear what could have caused the fire. It’s reported that people had build shacks inside the building, and there were some illegal electricity connections. International media outlets such as BBC News, New York Times, CNN and Al Jazeera are also reporting on the issue.

It’s reported that children are looking for their parents and loved ones. According to City of Johannesburg, the number of fatalities has risen to 73 and 52 injured. There is still and intensive search and recovery operation taking place.

We send our heartfelt prayers and condolences to every family that lost their loved ones during this Johannesburg CBD ordeal. In the meantime social media users are gutted over hat has just happened. Many are feeling for the deceased and the affected families, while a few, say illegal foreign nationals, who occupy most of these buildings should be sent home.
