10 Interesting Facts You May Not Have Known About Pearl Shongwe. Two days after her death was announced Pearl Shongwe is still trending on social media. Tributes from colleagues, fans and the general public have been pouring in. Although many are still in shock, they still have the courage to celebrate Pearl’s life.
The following facts are just some of the things about the media personality that she will forever be reminded by.
1. Ntombifuthi Pearl Shongwe was born in Soweto, Gauteng, in 1987.
2. Her first introduction to media came in 1999 at the age of 12, when she scored several TV commercial bookings.
3. The media personality and news reader’s career kicked off in 2010 when she worked for youth radio station YFM as an entertainment reporter.
4. Following a two-year stint at YFM, Pearl left the radio station and took up an MC gig at Silverstar Casino in Krugersdorp, Gauteng.
5. Thereafter, she was scooped by SABC Sport to provide voice-over work as a reporter on the children’s show, Sports Buzz. This is where Pearl saw the most growth in her professional career. Very quickly she rose up the ranks at the public broadcaster.
6. Pearl proved her versatility as she anchored the news on SABC’s 24-hour news channel as well as SABC’s radio broadcasting station, Metro FM, as a newsreader.
7. She also featured on the SABC 24hr News channel as a sports host on Sports Live. Pearl then moved on to co-host Morning Live on weekends alongside Simphiwe Ncongwane.
8. At the time of her death Pearl was a presenter Pearl Shongwe was a presenter on on SABC1 educational youth talk show, Daily Thetha, as well as on the Touchdown with Tbo Touch show on Metro FM.
9. Besides being a renowned media personality, Pearl was also a beauty queen of note. The Soweto born talent was so good that she became Miss Soweto finalist in 2011.
10. Pearl sadly was found dead on Tuesday 8th November. According to reports, she was discovered lying face down in her bed by her neighbors. It still remains unclear what the cause of death was at this juncture.
