Phumeza Mdabe Shares Heartwarming Videos Showing Her Blind Son’s Amazing Capabilities. As they say, disability is not inability. The saying resonates well with Mpilo Mdabe, who has not let blindness stand on his way to a great life.
Nine-year-old Mpilo was diagnosed with Bilateral Retino Blastomas, an eye cancer, when he was 13 months old back in 2014. He unfortunately lost both his eyes as the tumor did not respond to treatment. He is now cancer free, but sadly lost his sight. Mpilo wears prosthetic eyes. His parents Phumeza and Shota Mdabe, continue to do all they can to make his life comfortable, and this includes finding him a good school.
Mpilo has not let his condition affect him in anyway, and does every activity you can think of including playing soccer, singing as well as playing musical instruments. In 2022, the young champ nailed Braille, just soon after he started learning at school. This was a proud moment for his parents, and Phumeza took to social media to celebrate the milestone.
Of recent, Phumeza, who runs Mpilo’s Instagram page, started sharing heartwarming videos of his sensing abilities. Mpilo can sense when his mother is in the car, and he can also tell, that she is around when she comes to pick him from school. From the videos one can tell Mpilo has a big personality, and is an eloquent speaker.
