10 SA Celebs and Their Side Hustles. One thing about our celebrities, a number of them have multiple streams of income. They have used their public status as well as passion, to venture into various business ventures. This is good because, the entertainment industry, might be lucrative, but it is not always stable.

Draw inspiration from some of them featured in the below list.

1. DJ Zinhle

Zinhle has positioned herself as a very business minded individual. Aside from her music, she owns a stylish accessory jewellery brand called Era by DJ Zinhle, selling watches, earrings, bracelets, and bag charms. She also has a a weave collection and salon called Hair By DJ Zinhle, among many other ventures.

2. DJ Sbu

DJ Sbu, is another shinning example that you can be an entertainer, and still strive at this business thing. The renowned media personality, DJ, and author, has some successful business ventures. Sbu owns a locally brewed energy drink called MoFaya, together with his business partner, Siphiwe Likhuleni Shongwe, which was founded in 2013.

3. Bonang Matheba

Bonang is busy and booked, but still has time to make her business a success. Her House of BNG came into the scene in 2019, with the introduction of Brut and Brut Rosé Méthode Cap Classiques (MCCs). Soon after, there came the release of its Prestige Reserve MCC, launched at the SunMet, horse-race. Going all the way to the top with innovation, the luxury beverage then dropped the Nectar range, one of the first African brands to produce a true sparkling wine in a can.

4. Basetsana Kumalo

A former Miss South Africa and Runner-up Miss World, Basetsana Kumalo, has used her beauty pageant career to springboard into entrepreneurship. She is the Executive Chairperson of a major production company, Tswelopele Productions. Bassie is also Executive Chairperson of Tswelopele Publishing and Tswelopele Group, a branding, marketing and events solutions company. Bassie is also a director at JSE-listed coal mining company, Uzalile Investments and a non-executive director at diamond exploration company, Tawana Resources.

5. Prince Kaybee

Although he has done very well for himself through music, Prince Kaybee has some businesses to supplement his income. In 2022, he launched a proudly South African wine called Milani. The award-winning wine which is named after his son, who he shares with media personality Zola Mhlongo. Milani only produces 7000 bottles a year, which are available by order. He also owns a trucking company with a fleet of 15 horses and 8 SideTippers. Prince Kaybee also owns shares in a short term  insurance company that exists in 3 African Countries. Additionally he owns flats “Willow Glen Bloemfontein” with a number of units.

6. Somizi

A couple of months back, Somizi opened his own kiddies store. Sompire Kids Store started off as an online business, and within a very short space of time, a physical store was opened. Not only relying on his celebrity status, Somizi is working hard to put his fashion business out there. Going all the way to the top, Somizi is now a fashion designer. He recently made his debut in the field by designing Moshe Ndiki’s  outfit for the 18th METRO FM Music Awards.

7. Shimza

DJ Shimza, doesn’t only cook hits, he is into the culinary industry as well. He owns a restaurant called The Hang Awt 1632, which is based in his hometown in Thembisa, Gauteng. The restaurant opened its doors in 2020, and has quickly become one of the most well-known eateries in the area, owing to its unique cuisine, drinks, and great music.

8. Thando Thabethe

Thando Thebethe, owns a business called Thabooty, which sells underwear and shape-wear. The award winning actress, media personality and DJ started the business in 2017 which has been selling online. Thabooty opened its first walk-in store in 2021, and business is booming. She also co-owns a production company called Redwood Productions.

9. Londie London

Londie London is really invested in business. After studying  Jewellery Design and manufacturing at the University of Johannesburg, she she introduced her own brand called Lonox . She then launched a Lingerie line called ‘Laced by Londie’ and a clothing line called Fly, which consists of short tight skirts and wide-legged pants. A year ago, Londie teamed up with manufacturer Afrotex to launch her very own line of signature braiding hair, the Londie London Braid. A couple of months back, the musician and reality show star announced another business venture, a unisex fragrance called, HOLIDAY.

10. Dineo Ranaka

During her abstinence on social media, Dineo has been working on her new restaurant, The Untrained Chef. For the business, she has teamed up with The Purple Chef, Barney Jiri. The Untrained Chef serves up all things hearty and healthy, from a selection of curries to an array of grills and a full breakfast spread. Dineo also owns cosmetic range LuvDrBeauty which launched 16th December 2020.
