Nomzamo Mbatha Filled With Gratitude As She and Partners Launch A New School Library in Philippi. If there is one celebrity determined to fight illiteracy in South Africa, it’s definitely Nomzamo Mbatha. Over the years, she has provided bursaries, scholarships, paid registration fees, and bought stationery and other stuff for students.
Continuing with her mission, Nomzamo together with Cotton On, recently launched a school library in Philippi, Cape Town.
“MY WELL OF GRATITUDE does not run dry! THANK YOU @cottononfoundation for trusting @nomzamo_lighthouse in this partnership and massive investment to bring the VERY FIRST Beyond Words library to life supported by @thebookerycpt who carefully selected every single one of the 4200 books,” Nomzamo said.
This was not an easy project to do. Nomzamo shared that they fought through rejections from construction companies that refused to work in ‘dangerous, risky, tough’ Philippi. To ensuring that even when picketing would threaten, the community was catered to. All the effort was for the little folks who get to have a safe space to discover, dream and learn the language to shape their lives for the better.
“Books. Reading. Language sharpened my toolkit as a child… it gave me a lens to see beyond the confines of KWAMASHU and continues to be a companion on some of my loneliest expeditions, Nomzamo added.
