Employment

Be the one they want!

Employers have become pickier about the fruit that they reap. Social media is a great way to promote your brand and what you are about, to let potential employers and head-hunters know that you are the one they want working for them. However, it can also create trouble when not used correctly.media

Social media platforms and your social behaviour may impact your chances of being employed or not, even getting a call back for that interview.
The smallest mistake on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc could easily become the biggest mistake for your reputation.
Since I want you to get that call back and honestly ace your interview, here’s a short list of things to avoid doing on social media:

  • Not thinking twice before posting:
Although you have the ‘delete post’ option you have no idea how many potential employers viewed that post in the seconds it was out there for the whole world to view. Some people see Google as a history book. Everything we have ever said or will ever post on line will be there and capable of being found forever. Type, read, read twice again and then only post.
  • Mind your language:
As much as social media is for social encounters, your brand represents you and the kind of employee you will be. Social media is a part of your brand and you will represent a bigger brand once you are employed. The correct approach and language needs to be used when responding to anything no matter how provoking the statement may be. In short, avoid vulgar language in your posts!
  • Avoid stupid posts!
delNot everyone needs to know about how ‘nake’ you were over the weekend. Posting a picture to back your story help does not contribute to a great reputation either. To represent a great enterprise you basically need to carry yourself well. Being nake all weekend means you can’t perform accordingly on Monday morning, nobody wants to hire a drunkard…lets post responsibly!
