Zakes Bantwini Shares How He Dealt With SAMA Snub! The celebrated artist, producer and music executive shared his feelings about awards and how he dealt with a moment that could have been a drive killer.

#tbt This was SAMA17 in 2011 I was the most nominated artist with 5 noms but didn’t win even 1 that evening ?. So Love light and Music album which has songs like Clap your hands, wasting my time, Nomathemba, bum bum, juju amongst other songs wasn’t good enough for SAMA17, I remember saying to myself it’s all good cause I never made this album for these awards and I’m not entitled to any of them.
The best gift they did for me though was to make me close the show and I performed like it was my last gig, remember this was the first time ever the artist closes the show without a song of the year award. So when SA music fans were complaining on my behalf I knew that was for the moment next year they would hv forgotten about this and another artist might be in my shoes and indeed it happened @zakwesa tasted the same medicine.
So I used my fans grieve as energy to push me to do more music and I recorded my DVD in Soweto 2012 and gave you Upfront with Zakes Bantwini live album which had KAROLINA, 2013 went back to the studio and did My Music Bible which had Ghetto and She stole my heart.
2014 I joined Sony after my second graduation at Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) as Head of A&R and made success of many artists albums such as IFani, AKA levels album, KO dust republic album, Zonke, Ralf Gum, Kaylow to mention just a few. 2016 my contract ended and I didn’t renew it cause I missed being on stage so I went back to the studio to work on Love Light and Music 2 which is Dropping 23 JUNE 2017. Remember I did all this without a SAMA so the moral of the story is Awards don’t make you but hard work and your fans support do, look at me I’m the living proof that you can have a beautiful career without a SAMA #lovelightandmusic2 #23june2017
