Job description

• To lead and manage the newswatch team in the execution of the daily news agenda.
• To set the news agenda and take overall responsibility for the multimedia output and operational deliverables required. Provide editorial guidance to the Newswatch team, brainstorm and execute stories for the various news platforms. Lead in achieving content and multimedia strategy goals in the newsroom; assist in the development of the newsroom;
• Manage the day to day operations/news desk of the newsroom;
• Overseeing all day-to-day editorial operations; prepare, rewrite and edit copy to improve readability, and/or supervise others who do this work;
• Managing and overseeing technical equipment and online component
• Develop story or content ideas, considering reader or audience appeal.
• Edit scripts to insure news reports are produced in an effective and timely manner
• Lead in developing content and multimedia strategy in the newsroom.

Requirements

• Post – graduate degree or diploma in journalism or equivalent.
• Management diploma an advantage.
• Five years’ experience in a leading capacity within a newsroom environment
• Understanding of the radio landscape of the country
• Understanding of Kwazulu-Natal, local, socio-economic and political landscape
• Ability to manage a team of journalist within the framework of the newsroom;
• Ability to analyse news developments (local/ national and international)
• Advanced knowledge of multimedia and social media tools, video and digital platforms
