Job description
POPAI South Africa, a not-for-profit trade association within the marketing at retail industry, is recruiting an office and events manager.
Reporting into an executive director and board, the successful candidate will work within the South African chapter of a global trade association and be responsible for professionally driving membership initiatives, coordinating events, and most importantly, servicing the requirements of subscribed members.
Key responsibilities
- Take a leading role in influencing where the key pillars of the business should develop and monitoring progress against the strategic plan
- Propose and substantiate new business and revenue ideas; including planning, revenues and resourcing
- Tactically and strategically build the POPAI South Africa membership base
- Oversight and management of daily business operations
- By developing a professional knowledge of key industry verticals (retail, brand, supplier etc), develop and grow suitable value propositions for members and groups of members
- Conceptualise, develop and manage all aspects of event planning, implementation and sponsorship
- Strong professional relationship development with members and a strong understanding of how to leverage and harness member value
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key industry stakeholders
- Development and implementation of POPAI marketing plan
- Fiscal management (ensure that income and expenditure are maintained sustainably)
- Planning and executing relevant and effective membership communication
- Liaising with Head Office (USA) and global chapters to determine relevant industry trends and appraise membership base thereof
- Administrative and social media management
- Database administration and development
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in marketing and communications / event management / project management
- Three to five years’ proven experience in event management, supplier management and event logistics
- Experienced in intelligent selling and building relationships with new/existing members
- Proven experience understanding and managing budgets
- Experience in developing organisation-based marketing campaigns (including social media)
- Experienced and comfortable working in a fast moving organisation with rigorous targets
- Strong Excel, PowerPoint skills and the ability to research
- Experienced in writing press releases and articles
