10 Things You Didn’t Know About Warren Masemola

Pretoria-born actor Warren Masemola is not your average entertainer. Most people know him from his latest role in Ses’ Top La where he plays the gay Thokozani “Thoko” Chanel on SABC1 on Fridays at 7pm. His previous roles include stints in Intersexions, Scandal, Isidingo and The Philanthropist.

Here are 10 facts you probably didn’t know about the mutli-talented actor.

1. Warren Masemola is a South African actor and voice artist best known for his role as art director Lentswe Mokethi on the e.tv soapie Scandal!, in 2008.

2. He is also known for his starring role as gay neighbour Thokozani “Thoko” Chanel – Phumi’s (Busi Lurayi) sidekick – in the SABC1 sitcom Ses’Top La.

3. He also played the role of Tizozo on the SABC1 drama series Intersexions (2010) and has had guest appearances on television series such as Isidingo and The Philanthropist.

4. Warren was born in Garankuwa, but grew up in Soshanguve. He matriculated from Reitumetse/Tshwane Christian School in 2000.

5. He realised that his love for the arts could be channelled into a career, so he enrolled at Moving Into Dance – an academy in Joburg’s Newtown.

6. He studied  for a year, which was followed by two years of studying drama at the Market Theatre Laboratory, graduating from there in 2004.

7. Voice projects include a role in the Metro FM radio drama Chase and a radio show called Frank for Frank Talk. His theatre experience includes a musical directed by Fiona Ramsay (Spirit of Gerard Sekoto-Guga Mzimba), a European tour with Robyn Orlin in Dressed to Kill…Killed to Dress; and an operatic piece called When we peel off our skin…

8. He loves traveling, enjoys music and reading. His favourite television shows include Weeds, Shameless, Modern Family and Breaking Bad.

9. Ever curious, Masemola is learning sign language as he already speaks 9 of the 11 official languages.

10. His hair stopped growing 25 years ago. H was diagnosed with alopecia at age 6 and have been bald ever since.
