“I have no doubt in my mind that my client will qualify for parole”- Says Jub Jub’s Lawyer
Jub Jub was jailed in 2012 after he and his co-accused, Themba Tshabalala, crashed their vehicles into a group of school children in 2010, killing four children. After rumours of Jub Jub possibly being released from prison as early as March, his lawyer, Rudi Krause has told City Press that he knows nothing of an early release for the rapper but believes his client will qualify for parole in October.
According to City Press, it’s believed that Jub Jub has completed anger management and life skills courses provided by Correctional Services, and after completing half of his sentence, may be eligible to apply for early release come October.
“I have no doubt in my mind that my client will qualify for parole, judging by the fact that he has completed all the programmes which were offered by the department of correctional services,” he said.
Although Krause said there would be no special application for his client’s parole, he did say Maarohanye had served 50% of his sentence and successfully completed courses such as anger management and life skills, provided by the correctional services department.
They were reduced to 10 years, two of which were suspended. The sentences were backdated to October 2012, when the pair were first sentenced and jailed.
